Credit: dhlovelifeAs promised, Neil Young has posted the first of his recently announced “Fireside Sessions” performances in the “Hearse Theater” section of his Neil Young Archives website.
The 28-minute-long video, which was shot by Young’s wife, actress Daryl Hannah, first shows Neil with an acoustic guitar performing outside next to a fire pit on a rustic patio, where there’s also a tripod-like apparatus set up so that he can play harmonica while strumming.
Young kicks things off by playing his classic early song “Sugar Mountain,” then addresses fans.
“I hope you’re doing well,” he says. “I hope everything’s OK in your house. I hope you have a place to be where you’re with your loved ones.
The action then shifts indoors, with Neil playing in front of his fireplace, where he proceeds perform 1974’s “Vampire Blues.”
After a brief break, during which a fake commercial for water is shown, Young plays the rarity “Love Art Blues” and the 1971 gem “Tell Me Why.” He then talks about the harmonica holder, explaining that it was made from two fireplace tools and a horseshoe, before playing 2000’s “Razor Love.”
To bring the performance to an end, Neil is shown sitting at an old piano as he plays “Little Wing,” a song from his 1980 album, Hawks & Doves.
Young and Hannah posted a joint message on Neil’s official website announcing that the performance was available for viewing. It reads, “Well here’s something folks — welcome…happy to have you hang with us for a little…It’s pretty rough around the edges, as any down home/low tech slow interwebs production could be…but we wanted to sent out some good vibes anywho…hope you enjoy…take care…sending [love] (& we’ll try to keep em coming.”
